Description: This is a late 19th/early 20th C. Maori [New Zealand] Hei Tiki [Greenstone Amulet]. Handed down for generation among Maori as family treasures, such amulets are stylized ancestral figures typically worn on a neck-cord. This piece was laboriously hand-crafted from native jade (pounamu). Please note, it has some ground edges, most likely down in the 20th C.
